Taking a holiday from work, or whatever it is you need a break from, would provide the opportunity for some needed rest and relaxation. Most especially when summer approaches, everybody is in a holiday mood. But for people who suffer from a migraine, there is always that fear of an unwelcome and painful attack during the vacation trip. Sufferers have expressed that their migraine gets in the way of their holiday.

In fact, the planning and the preparation of the holiday trip is enough to cause and trigger a migraine. On the actual vacation itself, possible factors that could spark an attack within the first few days include weather or climate changes, time differences that could cause a jet lag, disrupted sleeping patterns and different or unusual types of food. If you frequently get an attack of migraine, it is always best to take the necessary preventive measures that you do at home when on a vacation especially when abroad.

Migraines can range from being mild to severe. The throbbing pain, which usually occurs on only one side of the head, can last from an hour or could reach the point where it can be agonizing that sufferers have to confine themselves for days in a darkened room. Most people suffer nausea with their migraine. Your medication should be able to relieve both the migraine and the nausea in order for you to be able to enjoy your vacation.

There are several helpful tips to have a more relaxing vacation and to prevent migraine from ruining your good time. As with any other situation, nothing beats preparation. Be prepared by not forgetting to bring with you your medication for your migraine. Carry it with you in your hand carry luggage.

Stress can trigger a migraine so sharing the planning with others can help prevent unwelcome attacks. Ask loved ones, relatives and friends who are coming along on the trip to help with the responsibility of planning and preparing for it.

Disturbances to your regular sleeping pattern have been known to trigger migraine, so never neglect sleep and get some shut eye. The vacation is meant to give you the needed rest and relaxation.

It is important to remember foods that can trigger migraine. Some of the dishes that could activate your migraine include red wine, chocolate, smoked meat and aged cheeses among others.

Other migraine triggers include irregular eating patterns. Never let yourself go hungry or eat past your regular eating time. You can’t avoid unforeseen events that may cause you to eat late. It would be best to keep small treats in your bag that you could always dig in when your stomach starts to churn.

Don’t allow yourself to be dehydrated for dehydration can trigger a migraine attack or could make it worse if it has started. Drink lots of water..

As mentioned earlier, stress is one of the triggers of migraine. To avoid stress, take the easiest and most comfortable route to your destination and keep little ones busy with activities in order that they may not stress you out when they feel uneasy.

Give yourself a break from migraine and enjoy your holiday.
